Sue Ann Carr joined RIPLO in September 2008 and provides adminstrative support in all aspects of patent practice including electronic and paper file management, form generation and completion, new application preparation (including original U.S. applications, internationally-originated U.S. applications, divisional and continuing U.S. applications, and applications that enter the U.S. National Stage through the Patent Cooperation Treaty), Information Disclosure Statement preparation, patent reference and prior art document management, review of client communications, ongoing consultation with attorneys and agents, preparation of shell documents and correspondence for review by attorneys and agents, stringent and redundant pre-filing error prevention review processing, electronic filing and Certificate of Mailing filing procedures, time and expense entry and billing.

Prior to joining RIPLO, Sue worked as a patent paralegal at the University of Virginia Patent Foundation in Charlottesville, Virginia, for 8 years.  The patent department was the first of its kind at a university, and Sue helped set up the procedures for preparing and filing patent applications for the inventions of UVa as well as supporting the faculty and start-up companies that licensed those inventions. Sue is certified as a Patent Paralegal through IPLegalEd® and is a Notary Public in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  In addition to her legal experience, Sue has worked as a Realtor, Executive Assistant and Executive Secretary.
